Shaping Young Lives Since 1970

The Camp Cadet program was formed in 1970 by Trooper (Ret.) Albert R. Vish, of the Pennsylvania State Police. Through his untiring efforts, this program became a reality. Trooper Vish along with John Prandy (Deceased), and Trooper (Ret.) Robert Price were instrumental in establishing the first Camp Cadet program in Butler County.

For 40+ years, his idea has provided the inspiration for the establishment of other Camp Cadet Programs across Pennsylvania. The program was originally called the “Pennsylvania State Police Camp Cadet” and funding was provided by the community to the Pennsylvania State Police. Since 1970, Camp Cadet programs have been established in approximately 30 other counties in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Camp Cadet started in the summer of 1985. Throughout the years, Troop M has held Camp Cadet at Camp Victory Valley in Zionsville, Camp Nock-A-Mixon in Kintnersville (Bucks County), Lehigh University, and most recently, Camp Fowler in Orefield (Lehigh County).

Camp Cadet has helped develop qualities of discipline and self-esteem in attendees. The Cadets learn that what they did made a difference not only in their own lives but also in the lives of those living in the community. Our camp provides 12-to-15-year-olds with an understanding of law enforcement activities while living in an atmosphere similar to an actual State Police Academy.

The goal of Trop M Camp Cadet is to introduce participates to the diverse criminal justice system and establish a positive relationship with law enforcement personnel.

At Troop M Camp Cadet emphasis is placed on teaching teamwork and the benefits of making good decisions as well as respect for authority. Many Cadets who have graduated from Camp Cadet have eventually proudly served their nation and community in the military and law enforcement.
